Global FitKids had the great pleasure of conducting their first-ever exercise program in the beautiful city of Yerevan located in Armenia. We’re grateful that Mer-Hooys House of Hope welcomed Global FitKids to their facility and gave us the opportunity to share our passion for health and fitness.
Mer-Hooys is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization based in Yerevan, Armenia. Our first-ever program was a huge success. The program was very enjoyable for all the kids as they were smiling and laughing throughout the entire program. The most important aspect of the program was achieved by having fun while challenging the mind and the body.
Global FitKids was honored to be able to give back to Armenia’s youth since our founder and director, Tigran "Tig" Grigoryan, was born in Armenia himself. It was very heartening for Coach Tig to be able to make a positive impact on the lives of youth from his native country. He enjoyed seeing all the girls smiling and laughing throughout the entire exercise program. Coach Tig was quite moved at the end of the program, when the girls performed a traditional Armenian folk dance. The traditional group dance was heart-warming as it resembles grace, beauty, courage and perseverance of the Armenian people.
Global FitKids was proud to volunteer their services and donate plenty of goods and equipment to the kids at Mer-Hooys. We provided all kids and staff with our comfortable Global FitKids shirts. The kids loved the shirts so much that they wore them during their next field trip. We provided all the girls with brushes donated from a beauty salon in La Habra, California. We also provided the girls with bottled water to keep them hydrated throughout the exercise program. At the end of the program we passed out bananas and apples to re-energize and refuel the body.
Global FitKids donated two mini soccer goals along with two soccer balls, so the girls can begin practicing and improving their soccer skills. We also donated two jump ropes, two agility ladders and several exercise cones so the girls can start practicing with SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness) drills. The Global FitKids curriculum for Ladder Drills and Cone Drills will be provided to Mer-Hooys so the girls can continue to enhance their skils. The tailored curriculum will allow the girls to continue to train and challenge their minds and bodies, all while having fun!
Cone drills enhance speed, agility and quickness as well as boost metabolism and coordination. We formed two separate teams for the relay race which made this exercise more competitive. The girls exemplified teamwork and camaraderie as they cheered for their teammates. This exercise is full of high-energy, enhancing social skills and promoting confidence.
Ladder Drills enhance speed, agility and quickness with improved footwork, cardiovascular endurance and multi-planar movement. This was the first time the girls participated in any type of ladder drills and their performance was outstanding. Ladder drills challenge the mind and body as they require the kids to really concentrate and focus.
The girls at Mer-Hooys love playing Dodgeball as it’s their favorite game. Dodgeball is an awesome form of exercise that enhances agility and balance. It also improves hand-eye coordination, develops fast reflexes and builds teamwork.
